Welcome 2009!!!

Wish you all a very happy new year !! Hope all your dreams and wishes get fulfilled. Thought this would be an appropriate time for happy and fast songs. Also, my mother wanted me to sing a fast song in my blog since I was only singing slow songs. So here are two fast songs for you amma :).

The first one is Mujhe Rang de from "Thakshak" sung by Asha Bhosle and composed by A. R. Rahman. He is such a gifted composer and so down to earth. Have a little story to share. During my M.Sc. days a few of us friends had gone to VT (now CST) to watch a movie and do general time pass. As always I had to visit Rhythm House, which was the only store at that time with a huge collection of music CDs and cassettes. And am I glad we went there coz ARR was also there buying music (this was in '99 around the start of his career)!! We were so thrilled and also had no idea how to react. He was so down to earth and was patiently talking (rather listening) to another fan in the store who refused to stop talking to him! My friend (also a huge fan of ARR) and myself spent a lot of time thinking of how to approach ARR and talk to him but finally shied away. A great opportunity lost :(. Anyways here is my attempt at singing Mujhe Rang de dedicated to my mother. Please give it a listen when you find time and as always would appreciate any feedback.

Song: Mujhe Rang De; Movie: Thakshak

The second song is Yeh Ishq Hai from "Jab we Met" sung by Shreya Ghoshal. She is one of favorite singers of recent times. Have loved her voice ever since I heard her in sa re ga ma. The song is composed by Pritam and parts of it are inspired from the french song Être Une Femme by Anggun (Source: itwofs). Here is my attempt of Yeh Ishq Hai again dedicated to my mother. The track only had some of the chorus bits (dekho na dekho na and pucho na pucho na parts). I did the rest myself. Please listen when you find time and any feedback is welcome :).

I have been checking ur blog for updates! Was delighted to see 2 songs together today :-)

Heard both the songs. Absolutely loved "Rang de". Extremely well sung! "Ye Ishq" was good too but there were some tempo issues at couple of places. Your voice sounded strained at some places. But the expressions and the mood of the song was great!

But "Rang de" remains my favorite! Awesome! Amma khush ho gayi kya? :-)

Listen to Pari Hoon Main when u get a chance :-)

Happy new year. Good to see double dhamaka in the new year :)

Liked both the songs. Rang de is fantabulous... Ye Ishq is good.. Pritam is good at churaofying the songs (sorry I should have said he is good at taking inspiration from the other songs:))

Great start for the New year Nandita. Rang de was incredible. You have balanced the pace and emotions very well, esp when you drop to the lower octave its absolutely fantastic. Great job on Yeh Ishq as well. Nice modulations.

Mujhe rang de: Nice mixing. Liked the way you did the slight overlap..Aaja and Mujhe le chal. Nice job with high and those "O..so low" notes. Very nice singing ...especially "jaag uthi" and "mere sapnon". Besides that..I liked the flute and tabla pieces in the track. Challenging song, you did great.
Ye ishq haye: Like this song because of (call it) familiarity! Liked the subtle chorus done by you. Nice singing!

First time visiting your blog. First of all a quick glance of your blog told me that we share the same taste in music (Pancham, Gulzar, "Umraao Jaan", 'Mera Kucch Saaman'...).

Listened to 'Mujhe Rang De' & "Yeh Ishq'. Loved both, honestly! The energy in the 1st was too good! Felt you lagged in the rhythm toward the middle/end. 2nd song? Remarkable rendition.

Your tonal quality is a-w-e-s-o-m-e...smooth, melodious, crisp.

Now gotta listen to the Izaazat song (I can write a book on this song..lol). Pancham-Gulzar combo never went wrong.....anywhere in HFM.

I have a slew of requests for you, but let me start with: 'Kya Jaanoo Sajan'.......Pancham, of course.

Nandita,
Rang De is a very difficult song and i thought you sang really well. Recording was great too. Voice was nice and clear and sweet in the song - a few places with 'rang de rang de' i thought u had problems keeping up with the pace.

Ye Ishq is a super song and you sang really well...again nice and clear voice ....

personally i think you have improved a lot from your previous recordings :) Keep singing :)

Happy new year, Nandita!

Rang De: A very tough number! Your attempt is commendable! Some lag in rhythm at places and I thought energy could be increased. Overall, excellent rendition!

Ye Ishq Hye: Good expressions! I felt you were slightly hesitant and could open up your voice a bit more.

You have a wonderful voice and an excellent control! Loved both songs!

Smitha: Thanks a lot for your comments. You have always encouraged me a lot :)). There were tempo lapses in both songs. There is lot of scope for improvement in yeh ishq (and also in rang de :)). Will keep trying :). Arre haan, amma khush ho gayee :).

Pravin: Thanks for listening and commenting. Glad you liked the dhamakas :)).

Jayashree: Thanks for commenting. Glad you liked yeh ishq.

TC ji: Thanks a lot for your encouraging comments. Am glad you liked the songs.

Shiva: Glad could sing one of your fav. songs and that you liked it :).

Paras: Thanks for your generous words and also keen observations :). Glad you liked the songs and the mixing for Rang de. I have so much to learn about mixing. I finally bought a new mic .I had been using my chatting mic (the one attached to headphones) for singing. The mic was not very sensitive and I had to either sing really loudly or amplify my vocal track to get to a decent volume level. I think that messed up the final recording. This is the first time I used a proper mic and maybe that led to a better final mix :) (i am still not too sure of my mixing skills :)).

Anon: Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving such nice comments. Really appreciate it.

Asim ji: Thank you so much for taking time to listen to my songs and also leaving such generous and nice comments. Yes there were some rhythm lapses. Will try to improve. Yes, I am also a big pancham, gulzar fan :). Kya jaanoon sajan is among my fav. songs. Will surely attempt it :).

Soumitra: Thanks a lot for your comments. Am really glad you liked both the songs. Also, am glad you noticed an improvement :)). As I mentioned to Paras the new mic might be responsible for the quality of my recording (no credit to me :)). I have been practising quite sincerely lately. I hope (call it wishful thinking) that too made its tiny contribution in improving the singing dept :).

Ligne: Glad you liked both the songs. Haan yeh ishq mein there was some strain while singing "haan hai koi tho wajah part". Hope woh sab can improve with practise :).

Pooja: Thanks for listening :). Rang de did bring back surbahar memories and those practice sessions in MB and the music room. Glad you liked it.

Azam: Thanks a lot for listening and commenting. Glad you loved the songs :). Will try to work on the energy in such songs and also trying to open up more in songs outside my comfort range :).

@ Nandita: Very nice job with Rang De...very nice expression and voice modulations..especially liked the lower notes...

Yeh Ishq hai was also very nice..emotions came through nicely... on a minor note...just get a feeling that the scale for this song is marginally higher than ur natural scale..
